Kostol Reformovanej kresťanskej cirkvi v Plešivci

The Church of the Reformed Christian Church is a Gothic sacral building in the village of Plešivec in the Rožňava district in the Košice Region. The single-nave church, originally dedicated to St. George, now belonging to the local congregation of the Reformed Christian Church, is located in a central position in the middle of the village. Thanks to the preserved fresco paintings of exceptional quality, it is one of the important cultural monuments.

The church is located in the middle of the village. It is a representative single-nave building with a polygonal sanctuary and a north-facing chapel. It is a testimony to the maturity of Gothic architecture in the environment of medieval Gemer. Especially the northern chapel with Gothic tracery windows, fragments of vaulting and a donkey-back-shaped sedilia have been preserved from the Gothic period. In its interior there is a secondary Gothic tombstone of Ladislav Bubek made of pink marble. The valuable Gothic portal connecting the chapel and the nave has also been preserved. The frescoes, still only partially uncovered, are located in the presbytery, where they depict the Crucifixion and the Last Supper. Other frescoes have also been found on the exterior side of the presbytery, depicting St Stephen and St Ladislaus The detached bell tower dates from 1748. Experts conclude that the frescoes are the work of an experienced master from Italy and were a model for other similar realisations in churches in the vicinity (Štítnik, Ochtiná). They are among the finest frescoes in Slovakia.

The church is on the list of "Medieval wall paintings in Gemer and Malohont" of the European Heritage Label. The list includes a set of frescoes in a total of 12 medieval churches in the Gemer-Malohont region: in 4 churches of the Štítnik circuit: Štítnik, Ochtiná, Koceľovce, Plešivec, in 4 churches of the Jelšava circuit: Chyžné, Kameňany, Rákoš, Šivetice and in 4 churches of the Rimava circuit of the Gothic Route: Kraskovo, Kyjatice, Rimavská Baňa, Rimavské Brezovo.
