Pavel Hnyk (Zdeněk Svěrák) is educated, successful, but not completely satisfied in his personal life. He is aging, taking stock of his life in his head, but he successfully drives away his despondent thoughts with the help of women and amorous pleasures. His wife, Alica, has enough experience from her legal practice of how such relationships and marriages end and what these situations bring to the people concerned and their entourage. However, she does not muddy the waters and quietly overlooks the petty affairs. Soon, however, Júlia from Košice appears, with whom the friendship and affection grow into something much bigger. So big that it will drive a man on the verge of old age completely mad. Their relationship becomes unmissable, they are the target of ridicule and slander, and their lives change from the ground up. There are situations that they don't like, and situations where everything goes wrong.
The comedy directed by Vít Olmer with music by Jiří Schelinger was made in 1985. Like a Poison takes place mainly in Prague, in the historical centre, in the Malá Strana district, as well as on the banks of the Vltava River. Pavel's life begins to change fundamentally after the 57th minute of the film, when the filming location also changes. From Prague, Pavel is traveling by train to Košice. His journey to find Júlia begins at the train station in the area near the trams, but at night without the transport connection he needs. Paul is sleeping on a bench next to the kiosk, where he is awakened by a policeman. Behind him, he sees the same lamp that is still there today, and in the far background, the "Bus Station" sign is still there in the same form. He asks the policeman for the address of Number 3 Tri Hôrky and follows his advice to set off. His real destination is a house on Čermelská Cesta road. There he does not receive a pleasant welcome if he speaks Czech and is immediately identified as the culprit who destroyed Júlia's marriage. In the distance behind the house, the prop of a local freight cable car from a magnesite plant is caught in motion. Even today the props can be found with an unmissable protective barrier stretched over the road, the valley and the houses in it. The scene is brief, but the soundtrack from it continues Pavel's next journey. The film was also shot at other locations in the wider center of Košice.
